NRI Physical Setting

The Physical Setting section is the foundation of NRI because the physical characteristics it covers, like topography, geology, and soils, literally lie beneath all other sections. Topography describes the Earth's land surface features, such as mountains, valleys, hills, and plains, and their relative elevations. It is shaped by natural processes like weathering, erosion, and deposition. Geology explains the composition and structure of bedrock, the unconsolidated materials like sand, gravel, clay, and till that lie on top of bedrock, and the soils at surface. Understanding the physical setting of our town is essential for interpreting all other sections of the NRI.
