Natural Resources Inventory

This Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) identifies, catalogues, visually maps and describes the natural resources, environmental features and cultural heritage of our community. The Town of Hurley has long recognized that its natural resources are fundamental to its character and to its success. For decades, the community has prioritized preservation of Hurley’s rural character and agricultural history as evidenced by community surveys, ClimateSmart initiatives, committee priorities, and numerous studies on open space, groundwater, habitat and wildlife. Our NRI is both a consolidation of this past work and a significant extension to it.

The 2025 Natural Resources Inventory project was carried out through a partnership with Cornell University and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Program with funding from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund, and an extensive volunteer effort from the Town of Hurley Conservation Advisory Committee (CAC).
